Make it harder, but acheivable!

So, we recently upped the ante in our parkour training, and it was definitely interesting! Over the past few weeks, we noticed a slight dip in engagement. It’s not a huge deal, but worth noting.

What stood out in today’s session was how the coaches made things more challenging—not by just introducing tougher skills, but by linking existing skills together, increasing the complexity, and focusing on precision and balance. Asking for better performance or skills that could already be performed! This approach really worked! All the kids were challenged, regardless of ability, in a way that still felt achievable; that led to a real sense of accomplishment. In fact, nearly everyone was successful in completing there challenge, which is fantastic!

It was a great example of how to pitch a session perfectly—challenging enough to keep them engaged but not so hard that they get frustrated. The coaches did a brilliant job of managing the energy and keeping everyone motivated and the coaches’ calm demeanor coupled with their own athletic abilities really resonated with the kids. Which helped build respect and engagement.

Overall, it was a solid session, and it’s amazing to see how challenge and careful coaching can positively influence behavior and engagement.

Short and sweet today! Let's hope our seesions continue to show these kind of results!

Thanks for reading, and until next time!
